A tongue and groove joint is the ideal way to create flat, even joints for flooring, wainscoting, panels and tabletops. Tongue & groove router bit sets will cut the 2 mating profiles for this easy to make woodworking joint with ease and with a simple setup. This joint also provides a lot of gluing surface as well as aligning ease. Tongue and groove bits can take quite a big bite out of the wood, so using these bits in a router table is strongly recommended. Even though some smaller tongue and groove cutting router bits can be utilized in a hand-held router the stability of a table will help keep the joint perfectly square. For best results, use with solid wood only.

This tongue & groove router bit set will cut joints for stock up to 1-1/2" thick with the groove measuring 1/2" thick by 1/2" deep. This set contains two bits - one for the tongue and one for the groove - so there is no need to reassemble the bits for the tongue or groove cut. This set features triple wing cutters, an adjustable tongue cutter bit for setting the joints tightness and 1/2" shanks.

If your buying and using in a typical manner with a manual router and jig, then you'll be happy. I use these on a CNC with some software that has to take into account all dimensions of the bit. The width and depth of cut are easy to measure with calipers or mic but the angle is much harder to confirm. The 3/8" bit claims 14deg angle. When I cut my pieces on my CNC, there were gaps that at first I couldn't explain. After some head scratching I figured the 14 degree angle was incorrect. I tried measuring the best I could visually with a magnifying glass and a machinist protractor. I come up with 10 degrees as the best i could discern. I re-cut the joints using this value in place of the manufacturers stated value. Presto! Perfect fit... So now I will have to confirm each bit angle in this set. A pain but otherwise I"m happy with the quality of cut for the price.

I am only using this on eastern white pine but it's working great. It's hard to say how it would do on hard woods. I am happy with it so far for my purposes.
