The 1/4" bit has a solid carbide insert blade which enhances the strength of small diameter bits. The shank diameters are 1/4".

Bought this to stick in a 3HP router in a sturdy table with a split-fence to joint lumber flat. Tall enough to joint 2x4's (if only barely). Minus one star due to not having a 1 3/4" tall bit for a little more security.
