Convex edge router bits add a shallow bullnose to the edge of a board. This is often found on stair treads and shelf edges.

This bit is designed to match the contour of the very popular log cabin building toy. This bit cuts a 3/8" radius partial depth bullnose at 5/8" length with an 1/8" fillet above and below the profile. This bit includes a guide bearing for easy fence depth setup and a 1/2" shank.

Grate bit for the money

S
Steven P.

The bits themselves are truly things of beauty, no complaints with the quality or the function. I've just received them, so I can't attest to durability so, for now, I'm giving them 4 stars until I have more experience. Consider the following: 1) I can't think of any routers using 1/2" shank bits which are single speed, but if they do exist, this is not for them. You should not run this at more than 15,000 rpm or so. 2) Plan to make your cut in at least three passes. You're taking off lots of wood and even with pine, it's too much to take on in one or even two passes. 3) The bit does a whole lot in just 3/4" of depth, so make sure your stock isn't more like .70 'cause you won't be able to get it done. Also, the slot it creates is absolutely 1/4" (if not slightly more) and if your panel piece is less than that, you'll have a loose fit. I have a recently purchased piece of 1/4" MDF which measures about .245 and that fits ok, though not tightly. I have an older piece which is more like .22 and it's loose fitting. So, make sure your 1/4 panel is true and not nominal. (Both my pieces of 1/4" MDF came from one or perhaps both of the two most common places to get lumber). This bit matches the inside edge of my cabinet shop made flat panel kitchen doors and I have myself made a pair of them using separate slot and ogee w/filet bits. My success was fair, and I had the same issues using the two bit approach -- you need to be very precise with your materials and your router bit height. You will find thickness variations between wood manufacturers and among materials, say plywood vs. MDF, so make sure to get materials which are as close to true as possible. Also, practice plenty before you try it for real.
